As of 27 July 2026, Metropolitan France reported its first locally acquired chikungunya case of the year in Tarn, Occitanie, indicating local virus circulation. Two unrelated autochthonous dengue cases were also identified in Tarn and Hérault.
Since enhanced surveillance began on 1 May 2026, France has recorded 87 imported chikungunya cases, 261 imported dengue cases, and nine imported Zika cases.
Health authorities are conducting investigations and implementing vector control and prevention measures for all local transmission events.
Prevention: Optimal protection against mosquitoes 24/7, including against other mosquito-borne diseases.
- Vaccination against dengue: The Swiss Committee of Experts in Travel Medicine (ECMV) recommends vaccination with Qdenga® only for travellers over 4 years of age who have already contracted dengue; see the position paper of the ECTM.
- Vaccination against chikungunya (Vimkunya®) is recommended only for travellers visiting countries with declared chikungunya outbreak (see CDC).
In case of fever:
- Make sure you hydrate enough and take paracetamol medication to relieve symptoms.
- Avoid taking medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (e.g., aspirin®), as this can increase the risk of bleeding in the event of a dengue infection. However, do not stop taking medications containing acetylsalicylic acid if they are already part of your regular treatment for an underlying condition.
- Malaria should be ruled out if recent stay in malaria endemic country.
