According to media, health authorities are raising concerns over a steady increase in chikungunya infections, with more than 400 cases reported since the start of 2026,
The chikungunya situation has intensified particularly during the week of Monday 9 to Friday 13 March. During this period, nearly 100 new cases were reported, an average of around 20 cases per day. This rapid increase is causing concern among health authorities, who are stepping up calls for vigilance among the public.
Data from the Ministry of Health indicates that the spread of the disease is mainly concentrated in certain regions of the country. Among the most affected areas are Rose-Hill, Plaisance, Stanley, Camp-Levieux, Mont-Roche and Roche-Brunes but isolated cases have also been reported in other places.
Optimal mosquito protection 24/7, also in cities, see factsheet: This also protects you against other mosquito-borne diseases. Vaccination against chikungunya is not licensed in Switzerland.
For vaccination recommendations, see ECTM statement.
In case of fever:
- Ensure adequate hydration and apply paracetamol products for symptomatic treatment.
