The Swiss Expert Committee for Travel Medicine has updated the list of countries with chikungunya transmission risk based on CDC country list and epidemiological news (red = changes since the previous update of 16 July 2026).
In addition to optimal mosquito bite prevention, the Swiss ECTM recommendation recommends:
Chikungunya vaccination is recommended for:
- Persons aged 12 years and older travelling to an area with a chikungunya outbreak (see) for any duration of travel.
- Laboratory personnel with potential occupational exposure to chikungunya virus.
Chikungunya vaccination may be recommended for:
- Persons aged 12 years and older travelling or moving to an area with elevated risk for chikungunya (see list of countries at www.healthytravel.ch) if planning to stay for an extended period of time or repeated stays (e.g. cumulative time >1 month).
