On 15 September 2026, 46 people were hospitalised after eating banh mi sandwiches from a newly opened bakery in Quang Tri Province. Laboratory testing found widespread bacterial contamination in food and clinical samples, predominantly Salmonella spp. All patients recovered and were discharged by 22 September; no deaths were reported. The bakery was temporarily closed.

Consume only well-cooked/fried foods that are served hot. Avoid salads, unpeeled fruits, foods with raw eggs, soft ice cream and similar products.
Drink water only from bottles that have been properly sealed. Ice cubes should be avoided.
