Global: Cereulide-contaminated recalled Infant formula recall (Bacillus cereus)
A recall of infant formulas due to potential contamination by cereulide, is affecting more than 60 countries worldwide. Symptoms of cereulide intoxication are generally mild, but infants under six months are more vulnerable to dehydration and electrolyte disturbances than older children.
As of February 2026, multiple countries have begun reporting gastro-intestinal illness clusters associated with formula exposure. For Europe: see ECDC report.
France: Third infant death reported after formula consumption.
Timor-Leste: Sustained rabies transmission in animals with human fatalities since first detection in 2024
In 2025, Timor-Leste reported 20 human rabies deaths (compared to 2 in 2024), indicating sustained and expanding transmission (8 municipalities) driven by gaps in dog vaccination, limited access to post-exposure treatment and healthcare.
Australia: Ross River fever - confirmed cases among returning travelers to Germany
Ross River virus transmission remains elevated across Australia into 2025–2026, with substantial case burdens reported in multiple jurisdictions and notable increases in South Australia.
The identification of laboratory‑confirmed cases in travelers returning to Germany further highlights the international relevance of Ross River virus and the need for strengthened surveillance, clinician awareness, and integrated vector control strategies.

The US CDC has updated the areas at risk for chikungunya on 11 February 2026 (red = new compared to last update 05 February 2026):
Dominican Republic: Malaria situation in 2025
The Dominican Republic reported a 17% reduction in malaria cases in 2025, with 877 confirmed cases compared to 1’075 in 2024, according to the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinave). Most cases (95%) were reported in the provinces of Azua (428 cases), and San Juan (392 cases), and Elías Piña (27 cases).
Mongolia: Measles outbreak; Singapore: Measles cases linked to international travel
Mongolia is experiencing a significant measles outbreak, with 14’123 confirmed cases as of 09 Feb 2026, primarily affecting school-age children. The outbreak is affecting both urban areas, including Ulaanbaatar, and other regions of Mongolia.
Singapore reported 11 measles cases in January 2026, all involved individuals who were not fully vaccinated. Seven of the cases had recently traveled overseas, and one case involved a tourist visiting Singapore.
Italy: Winter Olympic and Paralympic – How to stay healthy
The Winter Olympics will kick off on 6 February 2026 and run until 22 February, while the Paralympics will take place between 6 and 15 March. The Games will bring both attendees and athletes from across the globe to Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy, with competitions also taking place in several sites across the country’s northern region. More than one million attendees are expected.

Cape Verde: Shigella and Salmonella infections reported in returning travellers - update
Since 1 October 2025, cases of Shigella and Salmonella infection have been reported in travellers returning to England, Scotland and Wales from the Cape Verde Islands. Out of 158 confirmed Shigella cases, most (112) reported recent travel to Cape Verde, mainly to the Santa Maria and Boa Vista areas. Out of 43 confirmed Salmonella cases from three separate clusters, 32 people reported travel to Cape Verde.
The ECDC also reported an upsurge in Shigella cases in travellers returning to four EU countries (the Netherlands, Sweden, France and Ireland). An outbreak of Shigella was also reported in Cape Verde in 2022.
While no nationwide outbreak has been officially declared, this travel-associated signal highlights ongoing food- and water-borne infection risks in tourist settings. Older adults, immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women and children under five may be at greater risk of complications, including sepsis.
