Costa Rica has reported an increase in locally acquired chikungunya cases in Playa Langosta (Pacific coast, Guanacaste Province), a popular tourist destination near Tamarindo. Health authorities identified 45 suspected cases, including 4 laboratory-confirmed and 17 probable cases, involving both residents and foreign visitors. For 2026, a total of 16 confirmed chikungunya cases have been reported nationwide, marking the first locally acquired cases in Costa Rica since 2017.

In case of fever:
- Ensure adequate hydration and apply paracetamol products.
- Malaria should be ruled out.
