At least 23 people have died following heavy rains and flooding in Nairobi, according to media reports. The government has activated emergency measures as rainfall is expected to continue, increasing the risk of further flooding and displacement.
Other areas across the country were also affected. In the Maasai Mara National Reserve, tourists and staff were evacuated by air due to rising waters.
Follow media and local advice.
After flooding, there is an increased risk of mosquito-borne diseases, gastrointestinal illnesses, and leptospirosis. Take appropriate preventive measures; see the country page ‘Kenya’ on www.healthytravel.ch.
